Le Soleil, not so much

Location: Le Soleil, Grand Case, St. Martin

Rating:

This review is a bit overdue, but in the interest of completeness, I figured I'd fill in the gap. We went to Le Soleil the day after we arrived in Grand Case. Instead of taking a recommendation from someone knowledgeable, we decided to wander the boulevard until we saw a place that spoke to us. We picked Le Soleil because it seemed less fancy than the rest, but still French.

We hadn't yet adjusted to the extra hour time difference, so we were too early to realize that the restaurant was emptier than the rest. Had it been later, I think we would have seen the warning signs.

Steve ordered reasonably well - he got the shrimp and pineapple kebob with curry sauce, which was actually fairly tasty (though we've had better since). I, unfortunately, did not do as well. I ordered a tuna steak, which seemed like a good idea - we are, after all, in the Caribbean. But it was amazing - the tuna was fishy. It tasted completely off. I hate sending food back, but in this case, I had to. It simply wasn't edible. Not only that, it took 15 minutes to get the waitress' attention to ask her to take it back, which is saying something, since there wasn't a single other table.

So there you have it, for the record, not ALL restaurants here are incredible... though I must say, the downers have been very few and far between.
